Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:Β 

The Vice President, Product Management is responsible for ensuring a comprehensive and industry leading portfolio of products and services, to enable this vibrant ecosystem, and deliver high quality customer experience utilizing state-of-the-art technology that continues to evolve ahead of our customer needs.Β  This is achieved through strategic planning, oversight of all core product and service roadmaps, and development of compelling product offers, across Iridium’s portfolio.Β  In this role, you will also partner with Iridium’s technical teams to support innovation, research and development, and continuous improvement into our network and products and translate that to mid- and long-term business strategies to support company growth.Β

What You’ll Do:Β Β 

  • Lead and develop a product management team across all Iridium commercial product and service offerings and across all vertical applications including Land, Maritime, IoT and AviationΒ 
  • Foster and develop a highly effective, collaborative environment where accountability and clear, effective communication is demonstrated daily; inspire the team to create market leading solutionsΒ 
  • Act as a trusted partner to executive leadership team for input on decisionsΒ 
  • Collaborate with the executive team, including SVPs/EVPs for commercial and USG sales to enable growth for the company and to prioritize and align the product roadmaps to meet future market expectations and projectionsΒ 
  • Develop strategic plans, including marketing requirements and product specifications for the product development, gateway, and systems operations teams to design and develop products and solutionsΒ Β 
  • Proactively work across all functions to ensure products and services fit into relative company functionality (software systems, billing systems, etc.), processes, and proceduresΒ 
  • Identify and evaluate fundamental issues, providing strategy and direction for major functional areas, including the development of detailed and fact-based business case, market demand description, product definition, features and functionality for executive presentations and roadmap decision-makingΒ 
  • Approve and provide resources to support established project plans and oversee product management through the development and launch phasesΒ 
  • Develop and manage product readiness teams ensuring that all organizations are prepared to launch products and services on the plan of record launch dateΒ 
  • Oversee creation of technical, user, and marketing documentation for internal and external use for all products and servicesΒ 
  • Provide on-demand support to sales teams via technical presentations, sales training material, white papers, lab demonstrations, and other customer engagementsΒ 
  • Oversee training of all Iridium distribution and development partners on functional operation of Iridium services and productsΒ 
  • Oversee development and implementation of product management processes, as required, to drive effective management of product development and successΒ 
  • Drive continuous improvements cross-functionally, ensuring collaboration occurs between departmentsΒ 
  • Lead team whose primary purpose is to introduce new products, services, feature enhancement requests and respond to customer issuesΒ 
  • Develop and manage department budgets and understand the impact to corporate objectives for opex, capex, and R&D as they relate to product development, product revenue, and profitability, all of which contribute to overall company goalsΒ 

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:Β 

  • Bachelor’s degree , MBA preferredΒ 
  • 15+ years of experience in product development and/or managementΒ 
  • 15+ years of experience in cellular, networking and/or satellite voice and data products and servicesΒ 
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and coaching employeesΒ Β 
  • Demonstrated strategic influence and consensus-building among all levels of leadership and across multiple teamsΒ 
  • Ability to effectively present information, drive discussion, and respond to difficult scenarios across the organizationΒ 
  • Ability to plan and lead formal meetings with executive leadership team, as well as collaboration across teams providing product level plansΒ 
  • Ability to come up to speed quickly with company systems, proprietary systems. and emerging technologyΒ 
  • Ability to multi-task, improvise and solve complex problems and manage with minimal supervisionΒ 
  • Results driven, strong sense of ownership, strong sense of urgencyΒ 
  • Skilled at organizational development, personnel management, change management, budget and resource development, and strategic planningΒ 
  • Demonstrated ability to β€œthink outside the box” and propose creative alternativesΒ 
  • Enthusiastic and passionate with the ability to simplify complex technical & business issues/ideas for those without the same depth of understanding even in challenging situationsΒ 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish customer and partner relationshipsΒ

  • International Travel experience is preferredΒ 
  • Proficiency in English is required and one or more languages is preferred e.g. SpanishΒ

  • This role reports to the EVP Sales & Marketing with direct access and interaction with the c-suiteΒ 
  • This role manages a team of 8-10 Product ManagersΒ 
  • Strategic input and influence into an annual budget that includes the following:Β 
  • > $15M R&DΒ Β 
  • > $75M CapexΒ 
  • Product Portfolio for > $800M - $1BN combined revenues annuallyΒ 
  • Potential travel of 25-40%Β 
  • Position based in Tysons, VA or hybrid for right candidateΒ

Work Environment:Β 

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For in person meetings, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.Β Β
