Job Description:
The Senior Product Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the sugar product line portfolio, focused on driving sustainable and profitable growth for the overall business.Β As a Senior Product Manager, you will have ownership of a specific area of the business and will see the impact of your work on our company's growth.Β The Senior Product Manager is tasked with learning, understanding, and managing all products within the specifically designated product portfolio and will lead the daily management and administration of the assigned lines within a specific category and/or vendor base. The Senior Product Manager will have thorough knowledge of the products and vendors, will be a key contact point for the sales force and customer service team and a direct manager and/or mentor to Product Managers and Product Specialists.
SENIOR PRODUCT MANAGER - SUGAR
Key Responsibilities:
Vendor ManagementΒ
- Own and fully manage the relationship with key vendors within the product portfolio.
- Develop a familiarity and working partnership with Batory Foodsβ vendors.
- Learn and understand product characteristics for items offered by your suppliers including the uses, functionality and the customer base purchasing these ingredients to identify potential growth opportunities.
- Develop understanding of uses of key ingredients to be able to communicate to the wider sales team as first point of contact within the organization.
- Work with vendors for additional LTL business and find ways to align synergies.
- Look to increase our importance to the supplier with the goal of developing exclusivities and Power Partnerships.
- Attend training sessions provided by vendors to learn and understand the functions and markets that the ingredients are used within.
- Manage all pricing and contract negotiations with suppliers within the product portfolio.
- Identify current global trends and share knowledge with sales.
- Ensure that all dealings are with vendors that are providing high quality products and services.
Revenue Management
- Fully manage and be responsible for the P&L of the product portfolio.Β
- Drive profitability for the business through pricing strategy and margin management; clear ownership of break-even points, target margins, and price banding.
- Work closely with sales and supply chain teams to ensure maximizing of profit margins and reduced inventory age.
- Actively review supply chains to identify improvements in inefficiencies including but not limited to transportation, warehousing, and packaging.
- Gain understanding of market pricing and how it relates to distribution sales vs direct sales.
- Become fluent in differing product line cost models and develop an understanding of product line margin structures with ability to quote the Sales Team as needed.
- Work with Sales Directors and Account Managers to help maximize sales of product line(s) with direct communication via customer visits and sales meetings.
- Develop an understanding of the productsβ markets and pricing platforms for both domestic and international markets.
- Develop and execute on a plan to achieve 10% + growth on an annual basis.
Business Development
- Manage product line(s) by working closely with designated vendors and internal customers including sales, customer service and technical support for product application development.
- Identify additional market segments for target focus.
- Identify key competitors and develop strategies for combating competition.
- Support sales and marketing strategies as directed by Batory Foods Leadership Team.
- Assist other Product Managers in the development and implementation of marketing and sales strategies in targeted product lines as ingredients complement each other.
- Travel as necessary to industry specific functions, customer site visits and vendor meetings.
- Optimize the product portfolio to SKU level, making choices about new SKU commercialization and SKU rationalization.
- Strategic Planning
- Define and execute product line strategies and tactics, building on global/regional product strategies and local category strategies.
- Lead development and execution of product line strategy vision, ensuring prioritization and proper communication across the organization.
- Conduct analysis on the current business to identify how best to implement the business model.
- Compile competitor intelligence and incorporate learnings into ongoing platform management.
- Directly manage Product Managers and/or Product Specialists and develop growth plans for those individuals that support growth of both the organization and the individuals.
- Support and help implement the strategies defined by the Batory Leadership Team.
Personal and Educational Qualifications:
- A Bachelorβs degree with a focus in science, food science or business administration, or an equivalent combination of work experience and education.
- Five years progressive work experience in a business environment with at least five years in food ingredients or food manufacturing.
- Experience in a product management or purchasing environment with exposure to sales, vendors, logistics and customer service.
- Demonstrated food industry knowledge with exposure to ingredient sourcing
- Promotes trust in all actions with high integrity and honesty.
- Supports an environment that encourages professionalism, teamwork, and collaboration both internally and externally.
- An energetic, self-starter able to work independently when necessary, with minimal oversight.
- Detail oriented with excellent project and time management skills. Must be able to prioritize and operate in a constantly changing environment.
- Must be proficient with basic software applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) as well as business ERP systems.
- Analytical and detailed-oriented and have a comfort level discussing technical details.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability and willingness to manage and influence others and drive success in a team first environment.
