Job Description
The Product Manager role is a critical leadership role with accountability for managing the Life and/or AD&D product or programs, or for managing a component of a larger, more complex product or program. The person who holds this role will assist in the product strategy development and execution for their assigned area and is responsible for leading the coordination of all functions that impact product design, development, implementation and management throughout the entire lifecycle of a product.
Specific Accountabilities:
1. Assist in the management of key product metrics for a product or program or for a component of large/complex product or program. Β
2. Execute product/program level strategy
3. Manage product/program lifecycle
4. Assist in developing and overseeing execution of pricing strategy for assigned product/program
5. Development of new products/programs as assigned
6. Champion product through lifecycle
Required Competencies:
1. Product Management: Understanding of the process of product development and management and experience managing life insurance products.
2. Financial Skills and Actuarial Understanding: Ability to interpret financial components of the assigned product/program (e.g. profit and loss statements, budget process and ROI calculations, long term value metrics, actuarial pricing, implications of financial analyses and modeling).
3. Team Leadership: Ability to lead a cross-functional team in a highly matrixed environment. Β
4. Analysis and Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to apply business strategy concepts and traditional strategy analysis models at the product/program level. Ability to translate strategy into action with solid planning and execution. Basic understanding of cross-functional components that have to be considered in product design and management such as marketing, operations, claims, and product business systems.Β
5. Communications and Networking Skills: Ability to form long-term relationships with co-workers, suppliers and customers. Proven skill in negotiating, influencing and willingness to involve others in the decision making process. Ability to clearly communicate in a range of methods (written, verbal, formal presentation).
Job Requirements:
1. Bachelorβs degree in Business, Finance, Actuarial Science or related area, or equivalent trade-off in related professional experience.
2. At least 5 years of experience progressively responsible business, operations, or product management experience, preferably in several different levels and settings β some of which should include Life and/or AD&D Product Management.
3. Basic understanding of all Life Insurance company functions including marketing, competitive research, product development, product development and manufacturing, sales, service, finance, actuarial pricing, compliance, etc.Β
4. Achievement orientation demonstrated by track record of high performance and achievement of target results.
5. Advanced analytical training strongly preferred.
6. Relevant designations preferred (e.g. ASA, MAAA, CLU, FLMI, MBA) /or ability to obtain.
