POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Product Management Spine will lead Medacta USA in product management and product development activities relating to Spine procedures and systems. Primary responsibilities include market planning & execution of strategic plan, working with surgeons involved in product development and product evaluation, managing US marketing & activities and partnering with Medacta International’s product management & product development teams based in Switzerland. Inherent in this role is the responsibility to take all appropriate steps to meet customer and sales force expectations and resolve instrument and implant issues that may arise in all areas of Spine procedures.  Key deliverables for this position include achievement of business plan projections; proactive involvement and communication with senior management, Medacta International business partners; and interfacing with key stakeholders. Success in this role will be measured by the ability to manage and meet expectations for market planning and strategic execution, surgeon engagement & participation, product development schedules, budgets, and customer and sales force expectations. Position located at the Medacta USA headquarters in Franklin, TN.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Mechanical Engineering or Biomechanical Engineering.  MBA preferred.

 

Experience Requirements:

A minimum of 8 years’ experience in sales/product management and product development activities relating to implants and instruments for spine procedures. International work experience a plus.

Considerable discretion and judgment are exercised in decision making involving sales policies and procedures.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Sitting: Extended periods at a desk or workstation.
    • Standing and Walking: Occasional movement within the office.
    • Lifting and Carrying: Lifting, and transporting surgical instruments and implant bins up to 30 lbs.

Additional tasks may require reaching, manual dexterity, and visual acuity.

 

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS

External: Surgeons, Nurses, PAs, Allied Health Professionals, Hospital / ASC Administrators, Economic Buyers, Industry Society Officers/Staff.

Internal: Sales Personnel, Marketing, Customer Service, Medical Education, Clinical Research, Finance, Compliance, Quality, Regulatory, Human Resources, and Medacta International Personnel.

Travel requirements: Travel of up to 70% may be required, domestic and international (Western Europe).

Extent of Confidential Information: Highly confidential information regarding technology, revenues, budgets, pricing, sales and marketing strategies, customers, customer preferences, market development, and product development.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Develop marketing strategies and product launches with clear execution plans that are consistent with Medacta’s global strategy.
  • Lead Spine PM team with quarterly and annual performance reviews, Mbo planning, professional development activities, and continuous feedback.
  • Manage team travel budget as well as expenses and vacations.
  • Develop sales placement and pricing strategies.
  • Serve as a U.S. – based lead for strategic development of current and future technologies in Medacta’s portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain good working relations with Healthcare Professionals (“HCP’s”)
  • With sales & marketing management, define sales collateral needs and organize deliverables with support of marketing/communications department in Switzerland HQ.
  • Support sales force with in-depth product knowledge and ensure sales representatives, agents/Area Directors, and HCP’s are properly informed and trained on Medacta products.
  • Create, prepare, and deliver Spine product training
  • Serve as lead for existing physician consultant relations and identify well-qualified key opinion leaders for training and educational purposes and potential product development activities.
  • Assist in support for all labs and educational programs.
  • Assist operations group in the development and maintenance of Spine product planning and forecasting as it relates to the U.S. market for new and established products. This includes new product rollout and product sample organization.
  • Research, analyze, and remain informed about competitive products.
  • Communicate product-related sales support information via regular written updates.
  • Communicate sales force feedback to sales & marketing management.
  • Assist with sales support in all U.S. territories.
  • Provide case coverage assistance for procedures if expertise is needed.
  • Work with senior management to ensure the identification, use, and administration of physician consultant services for each event and meet all compliance requirements.
  • Assist in educating sales force with regulatory and compliance initiatives.
  • Assist clinical research team with monitoring multiple Spine clinical studies.
  • Create, manage, and maintain Spine product management budget.
  • Prepare and sponsor Spine-related Needs Assessment documents and budgets.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

OCCASIONAL DUTIES

Industry Conferences, International Congresses, Domestic and International Company Meetings, participate in select product management activities. Other duties may be assigned at Medacta USA’s discretion.
