The Hartford is seeking an Agile Product Owner (APO) to support our Cross Business Insurance Risk Engineering portfolio. This critical role sets the priorities for 1-2 agile teams, represents the voice of the customer, and links execution to the business vision. The APO will support a new agile delivery team in standing up capabilities to improve the Risk Engineering experience. This role will report to the Head of Cross Business Initiatives.

Β Responsibilities

  • Interpret and analyze both internal and external customer feedback or needs to build a business case, contribute to a product vision and roadmap, and create, prioritize and communicate user stories that support the product vision and roadmap

  • Serve as the interface between our customers, stakeholders, and development teams throughout the planning and development process.

  • Determine and communicate iteration goals

  • Create features and user stories, simplify requirements and establish acceptance criteria

  • Ensure the Development Team understands the items in the Product Backlog and their business value

  • Leverage data, Voice of Customer and Voice of Business to manage and prioritize the Product BacklogΒ 

  • Accept user stories and the overall iteration increment. Inspects the product progress at the end of every Sprint and accepts or rejects work done

  • Partner with Scrum Master and Solution Architecture to ensure technology alignment for technical enablers and technical debt management

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of agile methodology and frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, SaFe, DevOps, etc.

  • Domain Expertise – Understands business processes and clearly explains them to delivery team

  • Solution Design – Applies solution design principles that promote reuse and flexibilityΒ 

  • Data Integration – Identifies opportunities to exploit and integrate data to improve business processes

  • Cross-functional Collaboration with AI Teams - Skilled in working with data scientists, ML engineers, and technical stakeholders to define product requirements, prioritize AI features, and ensure ethical, explainable, and user-centric AI implementation.

  • Project Management – Risk mitigation and change management

  • Prior Financial Services/Insurance experience

  • Experience with Risk Engineering a plus

  • Prior Product Ownership experience

  • CSPO or PSPO preferred

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$100,000 - $150,000
